 About Us

Tom Bowen: I am from the Bay Area and have been gardening since 1980. I live in Kentfield and have grown lawns, vegetables, flowers and all kinds of container plants. I read Teaming With Microbes and it changed my whole outlook on healthy gardening and the use of chemicals. I enthusiastically adopted the principles of organic gardening and am now an avid composter, worm farmer, sheet mulcher and I follow the sustainable practices of Bay Friendly Landscaping.

Bill Falk: I have been in the garden since I could crawl. My parents grew up on farms and ranches so naturally we always had a garden. They used the traditional gardening practices that have been passed along through the generations. When I bought my first home, I got sucked into the modern practices of commercial fertilizers. A few years ago I stopped to look at my soil and wondered, ''Where are the worms and bugs I knew as a child?'' Since then I have been studying and practicing a more organic approach to my gardening. The results of using compost tea, good compost, and mulch are very obvious in the health of my plants and soil. Old practices applied with new science... It works for me, and it will work for you.

Together we have more than 60 years of gardening experience between us and have recently become aware of the essential role that soil plays in a healthy garden. Soil matters!Further studies led to our discovery of microbial life and organisms and the mounting documentation of the amazing restorative, preventative and long-term benefits of vermicompost and aerated compost tea.
